Where to Find Discount Laptops by Matthew Kerridge

Finding discount laptops is half art, half science, but all perseverance. Luckily, a good starting point can be found for those who have a specific brand and/or model in mind: the manufacturer. Most manufacturers offer consumers a replacement plan for when something goes wrong with their laptop. The process usually entails consumers returning damaged or defective laptops to the manufacturer and receiving a replacement. This particular practice benefits discount laptop hunters directly because the manufacturers do not simply throw out these defective laptops, they assess what is wrong with them and determine if they are easily repairable or if they are to become salvage used to repair other defective laptops. The result is that the manufacturer often ends up with a number of refurbished laptops that they are willing to sell at substantial discounts, typically with a warranty.

Vendors and manufacturers alike also have another common problem that can benefit those hunting for discount laptops: overstocking. Simply put, sometimes purchasing and production greatly exceed actual demand and because the market moves with or without a given model selling out, the result is that vendors and even manufacturers are forced to sell their rapidly-outdated models at discount prices. Often the generation gap between these 'previous generation' model discount laptops and their newer contemporaries is incremental, and anything but revolutionary. Being willing to wait a few seconds longer for some tasks could certainly be worth the savings.

Another great place to find discount laptops is a major local retailer such as Best Buy or Walmart. Nearly all major retail chains have some sort of electronics division, and discount laptops are more often than not one of their hottest product groups. It is also reasonable to expect greater discounts after major purchasing seasons. Back to school is a great example of a time not to buy discount laptops as it is often cheaper to wait a month or two and see whether or not the supply exceeded the demand. If that happens, then discounts are only a matter of time and therefore patience.

There are also a number of e-tailers, or electronic retailers that offer great deals on discount laptops. Overstock.com specializes in handling overstocking problems, but there are other avenues to consider such as TigerDirect.com and NewEgg.com. Both of these e-tailers have extensive inventories of discount laptops, some of which can even be customized to suit one's specific needs. Gainsaver.com is a web site that specializes in past-generation refurbished electronics, and has a wide selection of completely customizable discount laptops at prices that are hard to believe. Best of all: NewEgg, Gainsaver and TigerDirect all offer extended warranty plans on many or all of the items they sell online. This particular piece of mind is a rare find for those hunting for the best deals amongst all the discount laptops on the market today. A final word of advice: as with anything else, good bargains come to those who wait patiently; spring at the first 'deal' to come by and one will likely suffer buyer's remorse somewhere down the line when better discount laptops appear in an advertisement.
